Prista, a non-immersion film cleaner

"Prista" is designed for use in Post Production facilities, Film Labs and Film Archives. Its RD-64 patented film cleaning system (US Patent No. 6,678,913) cleans film effectively using sonic agitation to the cleaning buffers.

"Prista" has a small footprint, occupying only 3.5 sq. ft. (.325 sq. meters) of floorspace. Special venting is not required when cleaning up to 100,000 feet of film per day and comply with accepted air quality regulations. ""Prista" can therefore be placed at virtually any location within a film facility.

Polyester, triacetate and nitrate film can be cleaned with confidence, with our recommended film-cleaning solvent, Signal Hydronaphtha®. Signal Hydronaphtha® does not pollute the air and is ozone friendly. It is rated "excellent" as a film cleaning solvent by Kodak, has virtually no smell and is relatively inexpensive. One liter costs about US$20 and cleans over 150,000 feet of 35mm film.

"Prista" runs on about 8 amps, keeping operating cost to a minimum. "Prista can clean up to 200 feet of film per minute and is easy to service; no special tools are required. Side and rear panels disengage for easy access to internal components. Computer designed and computer manufactured to ensure consistent quality.

"Prista" is gentle on film, easy to use and is operator friendly. On-off buttons, film speed, cleaning solvent temperature, solvent application rate, cleaning buffer agitation rate and film footage counter are clearly displayed on the front of the cabinet.

How "Prista" cleans film:

  • Surface dust is removed by 5, 3 inch particle transfer rollers (PTR's) and 1, 1.5 inch PTR.
  • Patented (RD64) film cleaning system eliminates remaining dust, lint and grease by utilizing "stepper motors" to provide sonic agitation to 2 applicator buffers wetted to 28 degrees C (82 degrees F).
  • Film is dried and polished by 4 additional soft nap rotary buffers and continues over 6 additional PTR's prior to take up winding.

Cleaning performance can be optimized to compensate for altitude and humidity by adjusting:

  • Film speed
  • Amount of cleaning solvent applied to the cleaning buffers
  • Cleaning solvent temperature.
  • Cleaning buffer agitation rate
  • Cleaning buffer tension on the film
